Plan your outward journey

Step 1: select your means of transportation and book it!

The first thing to do, is selecting a way to travel to London. Most people will opt for flying. You may also choose to come to London by boat, car or train. More information about ways to get to London can be found on our getting to London page.

Keep the following in mind:

  • It is best to book a few months in advance; this guarantees you that your journey can take place on the date you selected; also, prices can be lower, especially when you travel with a budget airline.
  • Inform yourself about the terms and conditions of your travel operator; rules about cancellation of your journey and allowed luggage can be very strict, especially at budget airlines.
  • If you are flying, don’t carry sharp objects in your carry-on luggage, since you will have to hand them in and you will not get them back!
  • Always make sure your passport or ID card is valid in the UK for the entire duration of your trip.
